]]> Phosphonic or phosphorous acid (H3PO3) releases phosphite ions upon dissociation which have been shown to control fungal diseases such as root rot, downy mildew, late blight & phytophthora. Its primary mode of action is inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation (energy production) in the disease organism itself. A secondary mode of action is thought to be the stimulation of the plant’s own pathogen defence mechanisms (eg. the production of phytoalexins).
